In our collection – "Bush’s Dream" by Zbigniew Libera
Zbigniew Libera is one of the most important Polish contemporary artists and one of the most famous representatives of critical art. His work “Bush’s Dream” completes the famous photo series "Pozytywy", in which the author recreated well-known press photos, but completely changed their meaning.
"Bush’s Dream" was a reference to the political current affairs of the time – in 2003, the Second Persian Gulf War began, and Polish soldiers were part of an international coalition.
In this ironic work, where an Iraqi woman embraces an American soldier, the author relies on cinematic images of the triumph of good over evil. Using a kitsch aesthetic, he exaggerates the gap between imagination and reality, which, according to the artist, characterizes the reign of then U.S. President George W. Bush, as the title suggests.
